Clip Antenna Whereas a clip antenna is a small portable antenna designed to amplify a reasonable signal to help improve slow data transfer speeds, a high gain directional antenna offers much more powerful signal boosting capability.

High Gain Directional Antennas are generally designed for fixed locations (e.g. your house or a remote office) and to work effectively, it needs to be set-up in such a way that it is pointing to the nearest mobile mast for your network. Although this can take a bit of time to get set-up correctly, once it is in place it should not need to be moved. Although the High Gain Directional Antenna cannot ‘create’ a 3g signal from nothing, it will often allow you to capture enough signal to create a connection in an area where you may otherwise find it impossible to connect to the network. The most popular type of High Gain Antennas is the Yagi Antennas which look a lot like a traditional indoor TV aerial.

Almost all High Gain Directional Antennas come with a universal adapter which can be used in conjunction with USB dongle device. Wrap the adapter around the dongle (like a sticking plaster) and then you continue to use the dongle as normal to connect to the internet.
